Applying to the LTI Ph.D and M.S. Programs
Introduction
You may apply for admission to either the Ph.D or MS program, depending on your academic goals. If you apply to the Ph.D program, a previous MS degree is not required. All applicants will be reviewed, and it is possible that you may apply to the Ph.D program and be offered admission to the MS program instead. Applications and all supporting documentation for admission to either program must be received by December 15th, while letters of recommendation must be received by December 20th.
LTI/Portugal Ph.D. Program
The Language Technologies Institute (LTI) offers a dual-degree Ph.D in Language and Information Technologies, in cooperation with Portuguese universities. This program is part of the recently created Information and Communication Technologies Institute (ICTI) - which resulted from a Portugal-CMU partnership agreement. For more information, please see the program's website.
Note that participants in this program spend their first two years at CMU/LTI and then the remainder of their time primarily in Portugal. Also note that this program focuses on research in computer aided language learning (CALL) and speech-to-speech machine translation (S2SMT) involving the Portuguese language.
When applying, it is necessary to email both Isabel Trancoso and LTI_Portugal_Admissions@cs.cmu.edu, in addition to filling out the online application. It is your responsibility to make certain that all items listed above (and any additional materials not included with your application) reach the Admissions Committee by the aforementioned deadline.
